Acute appendicitis :
- Gangrene, perforation and septic peritonitis.
- Appendicular mass
- Appendicular abscess
- Faecal fistula
- Portal pyemia
- Mucocele of the appendix due to obstruction by fibrosis
- Rupture of the mucocele leads to pseudomyxoma peritonei.
Ulcerative colitis :
- Hemorrhage
- Perforation and septic peritonitis
- Malignant change
Piles :
- Bleeding
- Inflammation
- Portal pyemia
Acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis :
- Septic peritonitis
- Chronic pancreatitis
- Diabetes mellitus
Acute polycystic disease :
- Renal failure
- Hypertension
- Haematuria due to rupture of the cyst
Chronic pyelonephritis :
- Bilateral chronic renal failure
- Hypertension
Hydronephrosis :
- Bilateral chronic renal failure
- Secondary infection leading to pyonephrosis.
Renal calculi :
- Renal colic
- Haematuria
- Infection as cystitis and pyelonephritis.
- Obstruction leading to hydroureter and hydronephrosis.
- Squamous metaplasia of the renal pelvis and squamous cell carcinoma
Transitional cell ( villous ) papilloma :
- Haematuria
- Cystitis
- Malignant change into transitional cell carcinoma
Benign prostatic hyperplasia :
- Compression of prostatic urethra leading to obstruction to the flow of the urine.
- Hypertrophy of bladder muscle followed by dilatation, trabeculation and diverticulum formation.
- Stasis of urine leads to cystitis and phosphate stones
- Bilateral hydroureter and hydronephrosis
- Ascending infection leads to pyelonephritis in early stage or pyonephritis in late stage.
- Death due to chronic renal failure
Gonorrhea in females :
- Bilateral salpingitis
- Pelvic peritonitis
- Blood spread > septicemia > arthritis and acute infective endocarditis.
Puerperal sepsis :
- Salpingitis
- Peritonitis
- Pyemia
- Septicemia
Endometrial hyperplasia :
- Uterine bleeding
- Malignant change
Leiomyoma :
- Infection
- Necrosis
- Hyaline degeneration
- Malignant change into leiomyosarcoma
Papillary cystadenoma :
- Malignant change is common
Mucinous cystadenoma :
- Torsion of the pedicles with necrosis.
- Pseudomyxoma peritonei due to rupture of the cyst
- Malignant change is less common
Dermoid cystadenoma :
- Torsion of a pedicle
- Rupture of a cyst leading to aseptic peritonitis.
- Malignant change
- Hyperthyroidism
Nodular goiter :
- Pressure effect on the trachea and esophagus
- Secondary hyperthyroidism without exophthalmos
- Hemorrhage and necrosis
- Dystrophic calcification
- Malignant change
Rheumatoid arthritis :
- Secondary amyloidosis
- Splenomegaly
